Hand Made Heaven

Etsy is one of my favourite places to internet “window” shop. I have bought a camera bag, Ipod case, Jewelry and other other assorted bits and bobs from Etsy and every single piece has been incredibly well made and gorgeous!

Etsy has quite a few ways to search for items from your basic category search, search by color, or search by location among the incredible array of options available!

Lately I have been looking at sellers based in Australia. Supporting local artists is important to me and it has the side benefit of having lower shipping costs and supporting Australias Economy.

I wanted to showcase of my favorite Etsy Shops and Pieces and I quickly realised I would have to pick one category or this post would end up extremely unwieldy. So I decided on accessories mainly because I love them!

Rainbow Revolution located in Sydney creates gorgeous hand dyed wraps, shawls, scarves and many other things in an array of colours and fabrics including silk and bamboo! Beautiful, practical and affordable.

VanillaPixie's located in Sydney is a stay-at-home Mum with three kids who still manages to make the goodies in her etsy store. She makes drop dead cute clips and headbands in a range of styles and colours. I desperately want a set of Red and Black Ladybug Dot Clips: [Link]

uniquedichroic is run by Deborah a West Australian Glass Artist. She sells Pendants, Earrings and bookmarks in a variation of styles and colours. All her glass is hand made and isn’t commercially available. Utterly gorgeous pieces, there isn’t a single piece in her store that I don’t love!

Hundredsofbuttons located in Victoria sells necklaces, earrings, bracelets, hair accessories rings and flowers made out of buttons. In a wonderful selection of colours and styles her shop sells some incredibly attractive and unique items. I personally am lusting after a Creamed Mushroom Button Necklace:[Link] She also has a blog which can be found here: [Link]

Trinketsandroses in Queensland features “One-off designs are a specialty featuring gemstones (that may possess magical powers), sterling silver, fabrics of chiffon mixed with the odd vintage find” Whimsical and striking pieces with charming descriptions. I had to read through all their descriptions! I fell in love with the Sea Love Bracelet: [Link]

Poppylane in Hobart Tasmania sells things for your wrist, neck, bags as well as journals and more. Created out of new and vintage fabrics her pieces are classy and striking. I am in love with her Padded Wrist Cuffs specifically this one: [Link]

Are there any Etsy stores you love to distraction?

What to Wear To a Job Interview.

Job interviews can be extremely nerve wracking. You have to concentrate on saying the right things, not saying the wrong things, being polite, friendly and not to laugh like a hyena because your so nervous... or is that one just me?
Presenting yourself at your best at a job interview is a paramount. You want these people to like you and hopefully employ you. Having attended a fair few job interviews lately (if you read my twitter you know I'm job hunting) I have seen a lot of girls wearing exactly the same thing.

Black Skirt, White Shirt, Black Pumps, Nude Stockings and Simple Jewelry. This is what 90% of advice sites will tell you to wear to an interview.

I personally think that especially in this job climate standing out a little and having some style cant hurt your chances of being remembered. I'm not talking about wearing fluro fish nets or latex boots however adding to an outfit with accessories and colour means you can keep to the "office" look while not looking like a clone :)

All the looks below I would wear to an interview personally. I used a white shirt and Black skirt as a base to work from to keep is classically interview like.

Red! Red is a powerful colour. It projects passion courage strength power warmth and generosity. However it can also portray sex violence aggression and danger so its best to used with care. I prefer red worn as accessories and possibly your lipstick as opposed to the main part of my outfit. Wear red to interviews where you want a confidence boost, if your going for a high powered position or if you want to command attention.

Teal. Teal is considered a calming, emotional healing, protection, refreshing, sophisticated colour. It mixes well with Pink and Purple. Again I have used it as an accessory with gold as a secondary colour to add a little warmth to the look. Good if you want to feel calm, and are going for a role that will need a cool head and well thought out actions. Wear to an interview to help calm your nerves.

Tan/Nude:

Tan can imply sophistication, neatness and is thought to be linked to practicality, longevity and hard work. This look if a very classic look, A good outfit to wear to job in a conservative company or if you want to appear responsible as well as down to earth. Make yourself feel a little more confident by instead of wearing tights wear a garter belt. They wont know its there but you will.

Other Useful Hints for job interviews:

  • Plan what you are going to wear the night before and make sure its already ironed and ready to go.
  • If you are driving there print directions/maps and addresses and put in your bag, do the same thing with train/bus times and make sure you have the interviewers phone number in case of any mishaps.
  • Take a copy of your resume with you just in case they dont have one there to refer to.
  • Research the company you are interviewing with whether it be a Job Finding Agency or the actual company itself. See if the company website has a profile of the Management team and read up on the company philosophy, what they do and if they are good at it. This way you have some idea of the environment you are walking into during an interview.
  • Always arrive 5 minutes early but no more. Being early shows enthusiasm and makes a good impression but being too early can make you an inconvenience to the interviewer.
  • Introduce yourself to the interviewer and be the one to initiate the handshake. It makes you seem confident and sets a good tone for the interview.
  • Don't be afraid to ask questions about the role, Including who you would answer to and what a typical day in the job is like. Also ask whether the person leaving the role will be around to show you the ropes and ask why they are leaving as it gives you some idea of how your first day could be like.
  • Be positive about your last role (even if you loathed it) when they asked why you left be honest to an extent. If you left because you hated say you outgrew the role rather than that you got bored/hated every minute of it.
  • Look up typical interview questions and have answers ready in your mind. If you have a gap on your resume make sure you know how you are going to explain that rather than being caught out.
  • At the end of the interview if you are definitely not interested in the role say so. This saves them from adding you to the short list and calling you for a job you don't want and means if they have any other roles you might be suited for you have left a good impression by not wasting their time.

Any Hints Tips or Tricks you use to keep yourself calm and confident for interviews? What do you wear to interviews?

Kissable Lips

Kissing is one of the most fun things you can do with another person. Kisses can be intimate, fun, sweet and sexy. The first kiss can make or break a date. Have you ever kissed someone who was sloopy, who drooled or tried to lick your tonsils or mauled your tongue? Not Fun!

Kissing starts with the lips. Soft smooth lips on that certain someone beg you to plant a kiss on them. One of the things I tend to find attractive in people is soft supple lips. Dry Flakey or chapped lips do not a good kiss make. You can have impecable kissing technique but if your lips are grossing them out they are never going to find out!

Many girls wear lip gloss. I love me some high shine gloss however Gloss can be both an asset or a potential liability when it comes to smooching. Smooth tasty lip gloss can make a kiss yummy but when it ends up smeared all over your partner they might not be appriecative . If you gloss is sticky or tacky then the iss can go from yum to gross pretty quick not to mention the danger of your hair sticking to your mouth.. not cool!

I have alot of lip gloss. My Favourite currently is Plump Lip Colour By Bloom in Lottie Le Brock (Rasberry Pink) Its the one lying down in the piccie above.
300MIN_xl
Lip stick add a deeper colour than gloss and have alot more staying power if applied correctly however it does carry the chance of smearing making you look like a clown and those permanent lip sticks that dont move scare the bejeezuz out of me! I mean honestly whats in those! Not to mention the old lip stick on the teeth debarcle...

I dont wear alot of lip stick and currently own not a single one (must fix this) I really like the look of the Mineral Power
lip colour by Maybelline NY pictured above. Not to heavy and mineral powder means its less likely to have horrid things in it like lead!
Lip & Cheek Stain

Lip Stains are a great way to add some colour that wont smear or transfer but if you are like me and tend to lick your lips it disappears fast and doesnt protect against wind burn or chapping. I like wearing the Body Shops Lip and Cheek Stain.
Star Fruits Pink GrapefruitEssential
Which brings us to balms. I love Balms especially those that add some gloss colour and yummy flavour. My favourite at the moment is Nivea Star Fruits in Pink Grape Fruit. It smells yummy, adds a little gloss AND keeps my poor lips from chapping and drying out. Also always in my bag is NIVEA Lip Care ESSENTIAL for when my mouth feels like I've drank sand! I also like that balms are more boyfriendly than the above options. The male members of our species gets chapped flaky lips to and its just as unattractive on boys.. Blistex has devloped a Blistex Advance which is a clear non glossy lip balm that tastes pretty darn good. Pictured Below :)

Other ways to keep your lips kissable and gorgeous include Exfoliating regulary (once a week is plenty) using a Lip Scrub like the ones available here: [Link] Make your own at home such as these: [Link] or using an old tooth brush and some moisturiser and gently brush away the dead skin and then follow up with a good dose of lip balm. Also make sure you are drinking enough water. Your lips and under your eyes are two of the places dehydration shows the most!

So lovelys what do you do to keep yourself kissable? Anything products you cant live without? Spill!

Happy Mothers Day

Happy Mothers Day to all the Mothers and Mothers to be out there!

My Mum is my hero. There is no one on this earth who I respect more. She raised me and my sister on her own and has been the most incredible Mum ever. All my friends call her Mum and tell me how lucky I am to have her and I couldn't agree more!

My Mum went to Uni in her 30's to become a Teacher and worked full time while studying and raising to girls who admittedly didn't make it easy! She is probably my biggest supporter in all things I do and I love her more than anything in this world (yes including my shoe collection and photoshop!)

I hope you all took time to treasure your Mums today, Whether you bought them something nifty, Made them breakfast in bed or just took the extra time to say I love you!

See you tomorrow!

Love and Obsessions.

Geek Style

I have gone through a few style changes from complete tom boy (Runners, Over sized t-shirt and ratty jeans) to Gothling (black pants, black top, boots) to where I am now which is a mix between Recovering Gothling and Geek. Looking back over the changes I realised that my Geeky Style would of evolved earlier if I had known better. So I decided to put together a list of things I wish I had known years ago!

  • Iron your T-shirt.
And your jeans for that matter. While some clothes are made to be wash and wear Tshirts look a lot nicer when they have been ironed as do jeans, pants and just about anything!

  • Good Quality (aka more expensive) Jeans and Pants Fit Better as a rule.
They also don't stretch funny after two washes or fade as fast. A well fitted pair of jeans can carry you through a number of social occasions as well as Casual days at work and a good pair makes your backside look good as well!

  • Long Skirts are Awesome!
Long skirts worn with tights and boots have a comparable warmth factor to think pants and also swish very pleasingly around my legs making me feeling extra girly. They also make wearing dressy tops easier and Look pretty good with T-shirts if worn right.

  • A Pony Tail can be made stylish with a little effort
During high school I was forced to wear my hair up and this meant that I was very lazy as a result when it came to my hair. These days I try and avoid just throwing my hair up in a pony tail and ad a ribbon, clip or hair band to make it slightly more stylish.

  • Comfortable shoes Do Not have to be ugly.
While comfy attractive shoes can be harder to find than gorgeous painful ones it is possible to find comfortable shoes that don't look like Nana would wear them. Chunky Heels, Well constructed heels are one of my favourite things in the world!

  • Always be honest with yourself when buying something.
I will never buy something unless it fits perfectly but that's come with years of buying things and watching them sit in my closet unworn because I was convinced I would wear it even though it was uncomfortable when I tried it on, the colour matched nothing else I owned or it just wasn't a "me" piece. That said don't be afraid to buy something different if you fall in love with it!

  • If you are unsure about buying something ask for an opinion!
Not the shop assistant. While not all of them will lie to you some will. Ask a friend to be honest (and don't lie to them when they ask) Another shopper in the change room (I get asked a lot and will always be honest.) I personally tend to ask my Mum since she has a great Style Radar and if I look like an elephant in those pants she will tell me!

I will be adding to the Geeky Style
category on the site soon so keep a look out for Geeky Style Tips and Tricks :)

What do you wish you could tell yourself years ago? What tips do you live by these days?

Ideas for Autumn

Photos By Miss Addict

The southern hemisphere is currently in the grip of Autumn. Autumn is a great season filled with colour, crisp clean smelling air and cooling weather. So I thought I would put together some ideas on how to enjoy Autumn and prepare for Winter!

  • Go for walks and appreciate the foliage of the Season. Take photos of the particularly
gorgeous leaves. Print a selection out and make impromptu wall art or set as the wall paper for your computer.
  • Dig out your winter wardrobe and find all the awesome things you bought last year and can now look forward to wearing.. Alternatively work out what you need and start shopping for it now so that first killer cold day doesn't catch you by surprise.
  • Wear Red/Orange/Gold clothing to match your surrounds. Or go all out and put red/gold/copper/gold streaks in your hair.
  • Enjoy the first smells of wood fire smoke drifting through the air.
  • Dry Press Leaves between heavy books and Glue to card stock and use as birthday cards.
  • Wear Extra Lip Balm and up your moisturising or exchange your evening Moisturiser for Rose Hip Oil to help combat winter dryness.
  • Make piles of leaves and jump in them like you did when you were a kid. Word of warning: You need a lot more leaves these days!
  • Lay off the bronzer and embrace a pink cheeked paler you.
  • Document Autumn. Embrace a mini photo challenge. Pick a Tree that hasn't started to turn and take a photo a day. Put together a mini slide show at the end showing the slow transformation.
  • Prepare for Winter. Lay in a stock of canned soup. Invest in thick socks, warm PJs, and warm fuzzy slippers for cold mornings.
  • Decide to combat the winter weight early and start a new exercise routine. By the time winter gets here it'll be habit and easier to start than when the wind is howling and your couch is calling your name!
  • Make yourself a hot chocolate/milo/tea/coffee and sit outside in the warm sunshine and enjoy it!
  • Be careful how hot you have your shower really hot water can damage the delicate capillariesBlane's like me start regularly taking Vitamin E now! in your face making your more than pink from the cold! If you get chill
  • Buy that TV series you love and plan to watch that when only crap things are on TV.
How are you enjoying Autumn. Are you looking forward to Winter or Dreading it?

Web Comics Recommendations!

I love Webcomics and I Read a lot of them. There are thousands literally out there to read and choose from. Starting a webcomic is a huge commitment and there are quite a few that look promising and then stop updating at some point leaving you hanging! Like blogging updating reliably with a webcomic is one of the key factors that keep readers coming back.

There are few webcomic artists who are able to support themselves solely on the money they make from comics, most have day jobs on top of the very full on job of creating a work of art that updates weekly/bi/tri weekly or daily! The comics linked below are all updated regularly and fairly well known but if you are just getting started with webcomic
s these are a good place to start!

Questionable Content
Updated: Monday - Friday
Colour: Full Colour
Panels: 4
RSS: Full Comic

Questionable Content is created by Jeph Jacques. The first strips went online on August 1, 2003 according to his about page. Its an ongoing story about a group of friends with the core charac
ters being Martin, Faye, Dora, and Hannalore. Supporting cast includes Raven, Pennelope, Anthro PCs and a fair amount of other people who pop up on a regular basis. The strip count is up over 1300 so reading the whole archive will take you awhile but is well worth it for the back story on all the characters.

Another good reason to read the archive is so you can appreciate how much the artwork has progressed over the years. Jeph has a twitter account which can be found here: [Link] where he posts random comments, updates on how the drawing of the comic is going and the occasional drunken message. QC is my favourite webcomic and I have been reading it for a long time ( going on 5 years!) and the writing, characters and artwork still impress and make me hungry for more every time!

One more nifty thing about Questionable Content! A few of the characters have their own twitter accounts which interact with each other. I cant imagine the phenomenal amo
unt of work it takes to manage this but its extremely cool and adds a nice dimension to the characters. Collection of twitter accounts can be found here [Link]

Devils P
anties
Updated: Monday to Friday with full comics. Saturday & Sunday with Sketches and Occasionally a full comic.
Colour: Bla
ck and White with Colour Highlights.
Panels: 4
RSS: Link Only

Jennie Brendan the creator of Devils Panties is furiously prolific with her comics, she produces Devils Panties 5 Days a week, Geebas On Parade semi regularly and Customers Suck every Monday. Devils panties is the story of Jennies life, She calls it semi autobiographical and it includes her adventures clubbing, going to comic conventions and stories about her home life (she cooks about as well as me apparently!) with occasional "famous last words" and "what not to say in the bedroom" single strips.

Jennie has a Twitter account [Link] and a youtube account [Link] with which she video blogs. Devils panties has existed since October 2001. Again the archives massive but well worth the read to get the back story on Jennie including several moves and the story of how she met her SO Will. I have been reading Devils Panties longer than QC so going on 6-7 years and I would count Jennie as one of my Heroes. Her comic is utterly awesome and when I go to the states I will be timing it so I can go to a convention and possible pounce her! Funny, Feminist, wonderfully drawn and brilliantly written!

Snowflakes
Updated: Monday Wednesday Friday
Colour: Full Colour:
Panels: 4-5
RSS: Full Comic

Snowflakes if a new webbcomic only having been around since March of this year and was recommended to be by a friend. This webcomic has some serious Talent behind it as the Artist and Scripter have both worked on webcomics that rocked before. Created by James Ashby (story/plotting), Chris Jones(Art) and Zach Weiner(Scripting) its the tale of an Orphanage sometime in the Andes mountains its set against the back drop of never ending snow.

The art work is delicious and the characters and funny and offbeat while still being relateable Not a huge archive to read which is one of the benefits of young webcomics. The web design for this comic is great, clean and easy to navigate with the ads being non invasive which makes for a pleasant reading experience. I cant wait to see where the story goes!

Templar Arizona
Updated: Mondays, Wednesday, and Fridays
Colour: Sepia Toning
Panels: Full page, panels depend on Art work
RSS Feed: Full Comic

Templar Arizona is artistically one of the most gorgeous webcomics on the net! Spike is insanely talented, her lines are so freaking clean and her colouring is incredible! The story of Templar is compelling, confusing and makes me crave updates because I want to know whats next! Her Central character is a writer named Ben though plenty of other characters fill the landscape. According to the about section of the comic Templar Arizona is
"A slice-of-life, speculative fiction comic about a fictional city and its inhabitants"
and
"This is a story about a town that doesn't exist, and the people who live there.
This is also the story of a guy trying to find himself, and run away from himself at the same time."

I am not sure how long with webcomic has been online but the archives are substantial and organised into chapters. We are currently in Chapter 4 with an intermission in between each chapter so it makes keeping track of where you are up to fairly easy. A gorgeous and beautiful comic with a kick arse story line and brilliant writing! Spike has a twitter account which can be found here: [Link]

Freak Angels
Updated: fridays with a 6 page episode!
Colour: Full Colour
Panels: Depends on the page
RSS Feed: First Page then link for the rest of the episode.

Freak Angels is written by Warren Ellis and illustrated by Paul Duffield. Its gorgeous with muted colours, intricate details and Beautiful styling. Currently up to Episode 53 its an amazing read about a post apocalyptic world filled with a flooded world, steam helicopters and people with amazing powers. An interesting take on the end of the world. The characters are fantastically written from the girl who is kick arse, gorgeous and just a little bad to the guy who makes your skin crawl.

A hefty archive though worth the investment. I have been putting off buying the Books (2 are currently in print) because of lack of funds but that would be a great way to catch up on the comic as well as a worth while invention because this is a comic you are going to want to savour and I can imagine how amazing this artwork would look in print form! No twitter for either the writer or illustrator but there is an active forum to get involved in.

As I said these are just a few of the comics I read and some of the most well known. All of them have great artwork, well written stories and characters as well as being easy and a lot of fun to read!

What Webcomics do you read? Who is your favourite Artist?
