What to Wear in case of Zombie Apocalypse

Monocrome and casual as well as sensible with rather alot of attitude. Beware any zombies this girly is probably carrying multiple sharp implements and a flame thrower she isnt likely to be an easy snack!

Colourful and punky this girl is most often seen carrying a shot gun over one shoulder and throwing herself head first into danger. Will always volunteer for that stupidly suicidal mission and somehow survive while managing a witty line or to while kicking zombie butt!

This was one cool lady till the zombies ruined her night out. Now she is ready to kill any undead in her path that is foolish enough to think that she is an easy target. A little worse for wear but her lipstick is still picture perfect and that ax of hers is sharper than her temper so Zombies Beware! This is no damsel in distress!

What would you wear to wait out the zombie apocalypse? Would you risk looting those killer heels? or would you be wearing butt kicking boots?

Love and Lust Haves! #2

Exploding Mantle Clock by Roger Wood
Gorgeous design, Offbeat and Beautiful. When I have a house a clock my Roger Wood will adorn my mantle I assure you!

USB Cup Warmer from Geek Gear

I often make myself a cup of hot milo/coffee/tea and then forget to drink it as I get absorbed into something so this would solve that problem nicely! Gadgets FTW!

Harajuku Arm Warmers from Sock Dreams
I could quite happily own just about anything on the Sock dreams website but lately it has been getting chilly here and I find myself longing for a pair of colourful arm warmers... also fingerless gloves! This pair comes in a delightful array of colours and dont cost the earth!

Purple Coat
The one pictured is from H&M. I have a perfectly servicable black coat but I long for bright colours and for some reason a purple coat is my deepest wish for this winter!

Motherboard Mirror by Romolo Stanco
I love mixing practical with geeky and this fits the bill. I personally would just to brush my teeth in front of this piece of art everyday!

Amusement Park Rides - Photo By Me.
I recently went to Luna Park again. I used to work there and I had forgotten how much I love rides. The exhilaration that comes from spinning around wildly is just to much fun! Also I kick arse at Bumper Cars!

Polyvore.com

I have fallen in love all over again with Polyvore while I have started plotting out items I want to add to my winter wardrobe. Seeing how different people use the same article is amazing! Great fun to play with and rather Addictive I have to warn you!

Flowers by Kenzo

I bought this perfume in Thailand and wore it sparingly since it was very expensive. Then I lost it when I moved house and just found it again. Wearing it reminds me of my holiday in thailand and how much fun I had, how amazing the people are and how much I want to go back there!

Wall E by Pixar

I love this movie beyond words. My Boyfriend is very patient with me when I watch it at least once a week and has since bought me A plush doll of Wall E, dye cast metal figures of the characters. and the Playstation game. Possibly the cutest and most adorable movie ever with a nice theme and plenty of Awww moments!

What are you loving and lusting over right now? What gorgeous/geeky/fun things are tickling your fancy this week?

RSS Mayhem

Word Collage Made with Wordle
Its been a long week and its only Wednesday! Sorry for the lack of post Monday. I have barely made it to my computer since sunday due varying factors. I checked my RSS this afternoon and its getting out of control! 1000+ things for me to read! Which prompted me to write a piece about RSS Readers and Feeds.

I have over 100 feeds in my RSS Reader. Thats 100 Websites feeding me News, Blogs, Gorgeous Photos, Fashion Tips, design news, pretty naked people and webcomics. This is a screenshot of my RSS Reader currently. Note the crazy amount of things I read/am interested in/keep meaning to read.
RSS Screenshot - Click to Enlarge

Before I discovered RSS I used bookmarks to keep track of all the sites I was interested in and then would have to check them one by one everyday.. however this got seriously impractical over time as I had dozens of websites and some that updated Multiple times a day everyday. I was continually forgetting what I had checked and who updated when.

Now that I have set up my RSS Reader I dont have to worry about forgetting to check a website when I can just check one place and know exactly whats updated. I love opening my RSS Reader in the morning and seeing all the content that was created while I was sleeping. Some of websites syndicate the whole post/article/comic others just include a link. Personally I prefer reading everything in my reader and then if I want to comment I'll take the time to go to the site however I understand why people just include a link. When Website traffic is your income you need people to come to you rather than seeing your content from a distance.

I use Google for the simple fact of being able to access it anywhere anytime which simply my google log in allowing me to share and show friends what im reading/obsessing over currently however there are alot of other choices out there. Since I havent used anything other than Google Reader I cant comment on how good/bad the other choices are but Life Hacker has an article about the Best RSS Newreaders as voted by their readers. [Link]

To start recieving feeds you need to add them to you reader. Many websites have an inbuilt RSS Feed Link like the one underneath my twitter feed currently, Firefox has a nifty feature where if you go to bookmarks you can select Subscribe in reader and then add it to you reader of choice.

The great thing about RSS is that everything is one place, you can pick and choose what to read and where to go. Its an easy way to organise everything you read. It can get overwhelming when you have over 1000+ things to read. If after a few weeks you realise your not reading that blog or that website, or the fact that they update 30 times a day makes you want to scream unsubscribe, go back to just browsing the website as you did before. This will cut down on the amount of feeds that sit unread for days accusing you from their folders:P Google Reader has in built stats reports showing what you do and dont read to help you prune your RSS when it gets out of hand (Note to self: Prune RSS!)

I have quite a few Different catorgories and I am currently creating even more prescise labels to make my reading easier. Some of my catorgories include Design, Fashion, Personal Blogs, A Day, News and Pretty naked people. I will be writing a post on how to best organise your RSS Reader in the next week since I realised it an entire post on its own while writing this one so keep an eye out for that :)

What are you favourite RSS Reader? Do you use one? How have you found it changes your web browsing habits?

How to be a good commenter!

Also known as: How to not look like a dumbarse on the Internet.

I comment on blogs I like fairly often. One thing I have noticed is a lot of people don't seem to have any kind of manners on the Internet when it comes to comments. So I have to put together a a simple Dos and Donts of commenting. The same rules can be applied to forums as well.

Do:
  • Format your reply so its easy to read. Perfect spelling, grammar etc are nice but no one is perfect. However Wall'o'text, ALL CAPS, and unreadable spelling is extremely irritating to readers! Many browsers have spell check in built and make life a little easier for everyone!
  • Make sure your post Relevant. Add a personal story that relates to the post, link to something that relates, empathise with the post author on the subject. Constructive criticism is also acceptable (emphasis on constructive)
  • Read the other comments in the thread if possible. If there are 100s of comments this is obviously a lot harder but If there are10 other comments don't just scroll down to the bottom, read the other comments to see if your point has been made. If it has expand on their comment or reference their comment in yours. Ignoring other commenters shows a lack of respect for their presence.
  • Come back to see if the Post Author or other commenter's have replied to your comment. If you are especially interested some blogs/forums have the ability to have new responses to your comment emailed to you or have a separate RSS thread for the Comments section. Comments sections are great ways to form Internet friendships with people who have common interests and blog authors often enjoy responding to people who comment on their blogs.
  • Check if the website has a commenting policy. Some bloggers have taken the time to explicitly spell out what is and isn't allowed in their comments sections. Respect their policy or expect to get your comment deleted and possibly be banned from commenting again.

Dont:
  • Be rude hateful or nasty. Its like the old rule: "If you don't have something nice to say don't say anything" Bloggers are putting themselves out there and not everything they write is going to appeal to you. If you don't like it move on to another page of the infinite Internets
  • Post links to your blog/website and nothing else. Most blogs (including mine) include a Website Section. That is where your blog link goes. By all means put it there since the Author might want to check out what you do (links to nasty material is not cooland is considered a dick move.. don't do it)
  • Swear without purpose. Like in real life dropping the F-word into everyday conversation is considered a fairly impolite. Rule of thumb. Ifou wouldn't say it on Public transport don't say it in the comments.
  • Attack other commentors or blog author on a personal level. Debates in comments sections are common and as long as everyone is civil and sticks to the point they can be a productive exercise but the second you start insulting their looks/gender/sexual orientation/intelligence/religion or refer to Hitler in any way you have made yourself look like an arse and made sure that no one will take you seriously.
  • Post pointless comments."First post/comment" comments are pointless and simply take up space on the page.
The golden rule of commenting is this: If you wouldn't walk into someones home and say it to their face then you shouldn't say it in their blogs comments.

What do you think lovelys? Anything you would add or subtract from the rules? Any experiences with horrid commenter's you want to get off your chests?

Love and Lust Haves!

1. Fun 2 Funky T-Shirt by acrylicana

I have been watching acrylicana on Deviantart from about a year [Link]. Her art is bright colourful and a little offbeat.
I love how cheeky and cute this t-shirt is and how clean the art is. Grab this shirt at Etsy. She also does customer painted shoes and jewelry

2. Platform Pump in Black Patent by Yves Saint Laurent

I have a serious weakness for Black Sky Scraper Heels. These shoes are way way way outside my price range! Such a pity. I have however found a pair very similar that are slightly closer to my price range. Gorgeous and uncompromising style. These shoes say "get out of my way or ill walk all over you" *drool*

3. Swell Vases by Anika Engelbrech

These vases are incredibly clever. So far only a concept work by the designer but I hope that one day I will be able to purchase these creative and beautifully crafted vases!

4. The Super-Secret Spy Lens from PhotoJoJo.

Another clever idea! I realised recently how hard it is to capture candid portraits of people when they know your looking. The Super Secret Spy Lens takes care of this problem. As soon as I can I will be purchasing this cool piece of camera equipment for sure!

5. Apple Mac Book by Apple.

I Want a Macbook for soooo many reasons. They are gorgeous, clever and Light Weight. Again out of my price range (for now) but as soon as I can afford one of these babies I shall be plunking down the money.
The new range of Mac books claim to be more eco friendly too! Which is a rather nice Plus!

6. Luxeed Dynamic Pixel LED Keyboard from Think Geek.

# Amazing illuminated keyboard features 430 LEDs and can dynamically change the color of each key
For my home computer: This fully programmable colour keyboard. Create a rainbow for your fingertips. Also useful for programming in shortcuts you'll remember:) Personally I would probably just programme it to be pretty not useful... But its up to you!

7. Black Bird Earrings by JLynnCreations

I love simple silver jewelry and specially jewelry that's easy to wear and interesting at the same time. These earrings are hand crafted and absolutely Adorable!

8. Latex Pencil skirt by High Gloss Dolls

I love this skirt and just about everything else High Gloss Dolls make. Their website is a delight for the eyes with the product photos looking more like high fashion fetish photo shoots.
This skirt is simple glossy and gorgeous!

9. Status Calender by Burak Kaynak’

I love this idea and its sadly only a concept not real. The calender asks you to answer the question "what you are doing today" Similar to Twitter (which we all know I love) and Facebook status updates.
A great size that would fit perfectly in my handbag! Check out the other projects that Burak has created. His site is a fair amount of fun to poke around on!

What are you Lusting and Loving this week? Geeky Gorgeous or otherwise? Comment and Let me know!

What I Wore - To Dinner with my Family

Photo: Miss Addict

  • Chanel Sunglasses (from Thailand:P)
  • Handmade Earrings from the Markets
  • Chain Store Cardigan
  • Ubantu T-Shirt
  • Chain Store Pencil Skirt
  • Knee High Socks
  • Monkfish Boots
These are super duper comfy boots! I wore them all last winter and they are heaven but really badly need new soles! The Cardigan is missing a button (and I never keep the spares more silly me!) so I only do the top button up, a trick I learned from Gala Darlings Blog!

My Gorgeous boyfriend very nicely took all the photos while I posed like a loonie and nearly fell over. I have posted some more photos here: [Link] Including the one where I nearly fall over! And a shot showing my t-shirt and the bruise I have on my knee (its a good bruise) Yay for Photo Whoring!

What are you wearing now the weather is getting cooler? Anything special you havent worn in a while? Or anything you cant wait to buy?

a twitter over Twitter

I love twitter, not surprising considering I have it linked in the side bar to the right. I just find the concept extremely cool. Similar to the idea of Facebook and MSN status’s. Twitter seems to be one of those thing you either love or hate. There doesn’t seem to be an in-between on the matter. This Tweet addict falls in the former camp!

Dozens or more articles have been written about Twitter, from calling it "one of the fastest-growing phenomena on the Internet" and "the next killer app" to accusing it of being just another tool of Gen Y's obsession with being connected to other people constantly.

Twitter asks the question "what are you doing now?" ... though some people ask "what’s the point?"

Twitter is about communication and social interaction.I use twitter on a daily basis, whether from my phone or from my computer.
Its makes it easy to keep track of cool people around the world as well as real world friends.

Tweeting is fun, easy, simple and just plain addictive. Looking back over my Tweeting history I realized I tend to post randomly disconnected thoughts and facts bout my everyday life rather than actually answer the question "what are you doing?" In the less than two weeks the account has existed it (I created it to go with this blog:P) I have tweeted 108 times and I don’t Tweet anywhere near as often as some!

A lot of celebrities have started using twitter as a way of connecting with fans although sometimes they are updated by a staffer and not by the celebrity themselves. Hugh Jackman and Britney Spears are two who have been proved to use staff members to update twitter rather than think up 140 characters on their own. However Stephen Fry, Felicia Day, Adam Savage, Demi Moore and others have all been proven to be actually updated by them.

You don’t have to be a celebrity to get the point of twitter. Twitter has also been used by Journalists as a forum to request questions and input from the public during interviews and panels.

Twitter gives you an immediate and easy way interact with those who you follow and those who follow you.

Stephen Fry who has 395,815 followers does respond to his fans on occasion and is an absolute delight to follow though I think the man might be a tiny bit obsessed with twitter but given his addiction to all things gadget I'm not surprised. Felicia Day recently posted on her blog:

"I guess having over 300,000 followers on Twitter can be a good and bad thing. The bad is I can’t possibly follow or know each and every person who follows me, but the good is that when I get so many insanely smart and wonderful responses to things I tweet."

Twitter only has a point if you do when using it. It’s a great tool for social interaction and for anyone who just likes to put a piece of themselves online for no other reason than to be apart of the communication experiment.

A little Schadenfreude in your monday.

Schadenfreude:
satisfaction or pleasure felt at someone Else's misfortune

Schadenfreude: it's difficult to pronounce and conjures images of horrible witches cackling over crystal balls watching the gorgeous (and of course helpless) princess trip in the Forrest running from her minions ... or perhaps that's just me.

But there is a lot to be said for realising that your not the only one who bad things happen to. Having a little giggle at the youtube video of the Dad getting hit in the balls by his toddler is totally okay and just as therapeutic as watching Cats on treadmills or Hamster on a piano 100 times a day! Perhaps more so. Not being alone in your crappy mood can make it lighter and easier to get on with life without dwelling on the bad stuff.

I'm not talking about laughing when your best friend stacks it down a set of stairs or when you see an old lady struggling with her shopping.

However laughing at simple things like the website "Oh Crap My Parents Joined Facebook" (which lets face it would be fairly horrifying) is a great outlet on a Monday morning when you missed your train, it rained, you forgot your umbrella and that cute guy/girl on the bus saw you drenched from head to toe looking decidedly unsexy and frazzled. After all at least your Mum isnt seeing that photo of you at that party you only kinda remember...

There are a tonne of great websites out there that catalogue the misfortunes of others with humorous intent and submitting something yourself can be a great relief. Take "I bang the worst dudes.. sorry mom" where you can submit a story bout the worst you dude ever .. *ahem* banged along with a photos of the Dude in question (they censor him with a black line) and all anonymously so no one has to know it was you!

I enjoy a little Schadenfreude ... when its done in fun so much that I have a whole category devoted to it in my RSS Reader (labelled unimaginatively Schadenfreude ) Here are a couple of Choice links to get your through a bad day with a giggle and the assurance that its not all that bad, at least you didn't sleep with a guy who likes to be called “Moose” and have his butt spanked "like mom would" [Link]

I Bang the worst dudes ... Sorry Mom!
[Link]

This website is not very old but has already got some serious attention. Run by "mom" the horror stories will make you realise that your worst boyfriend cannot compare.. or if he can you just post it up here and feel a little better bout the whole sordid affair. Trust me when I say its a great outlet!

Good For: Bagging out that one night stand shamefully sitting like a skeleton in your metaphoric closet without having to admit to your friends you slept with him.

Oh Crap My Parents Joined Facebook
[Link]

How do you respond to a friend request from your Mum? This site catalogues the funny/embarrassing/plain arkward things parents do on Facebook. I haven't had to deal with Mum on facebook but a friend request from my Boss was a bit odd. I ended up not replying for 6 months until I left the job and then declined it...

Good For: Realising your not the only one who has to be careful on facebook cause Mum or Dad is watching. Also a good reminder not to take those "Purity Test?" quizzes..No one wants their mum asking they have had a threesome.

Said In Bed
[Link]

The site says "as arkward as the act" as a description. I have to say some of the quotes make me laugh, others make me squirm and some are serious WTF moment.. like this one [Link] Brilliant to read with a friend and laugh til your sides split. Or as a guilty pleasure on your lunch break.

Good For: A laugh and some great brain twisting moments trying to figure out what might have preceded the quote!

My Very Worst Date:
[Link]

Remember that date where your best friend asked you to ring her and then she pretended her pipes had burst just so she could get away from the loser on the other side of the table? Well if that story isn't up there it would fit right in! A lot of dates don't go well and this website is a chance to wave the experience around in public again behind the veil of Anonymity.

Good For: Stressing yourself out about all the things that could possibly wrong on your date tonight... or for telling world how incredibly wrong your date tonight went. Or just great for a little Schadenfreude in your Monday.

F my life!
[Link]

When you need a quick "My life isn't so bad" pick me up head to fmylife.com. For the moments when nothing else says it the phrase "Fuck my life" exists and now the whole world can enjoy the moment to... would you rather be laughed with or at? Read though a never ending list of FML moments that are little longer than a twitter post.

Good For: Days when you either need to say "Fuck my life" to the whole world and let it out or just realising that other people are having a shit day too

Blogging bout Robots.

I have come across alot of Robot news things week. I find the concept of Robots extremely interesting and thought I would share some things I found, cool, weird, wacky and a little creepy.

Gardening Robot
[Link]

First up on our robot tour we have the Gardening Robots. Repurposed (and heavily modified) Roomba Vacum cleaners have been tending a garden at MIT in the US. They Feed Water and Harvest tomato plants. They hope to create a completely automated green house some day... I think my mum could use one of these to help her in the garden sometimes since she has so little time!

Hexapod Dance Competition
[Link]

I came across this a while ago and the video is utterly mesmirising. The video is of a Hexapod Dance Competition in Austria. Hexapods are 6 legged robots. The nexcompetition is being held on April 16th. Cannot wait to see what people come up with this year! ... Sad to say these robots dance better than me....

Big Dog Military Robot
[Link]

Big Dog is a Military Robot that has had $10 Million dollars go into its design. It can climb jump and carry 154 kilos (340 pounds) Epppp! It almost seems like a very strange (albiet headless) animal and watching it nearly fall over made me feel sorry for it!

Mind Reading Robot
[Link]
A robot developed by honda is capable by being controlled just by thought. Wearing a sexy (not!) skull cap with a butt load of senses in it the robot responds to certain thoughts and acts accordingly... All in all a really cool concept... Hopefully being able to control other things with my mind is not far away.. like the coffee maker at 6am.

And last watch out Super Models.
Fashion Model Robot
[Link]

The HRP-4C, is a fashion model robot. Created in japan by the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology she can walk, bow and pose. She also has facial expressions. I'm not sure if she will ever be more popular than real live human beings but as a novelty she is extremely interesting... if kinda creepy sorry to say.

Enjoy the links and please post any cool robot articles videos and pics of your own :)

10 Signs of a Net Addict

Net addicts are a varied and complicated breed of people. We are from all walks of life from your grandma who got addicted to online marjong (after you explained to her how to use the mouse) to the13 year old geek who has discovered forums and other geeks just like him!

Here are 10 simple signs you or someone you know is a net addict!

1. The first thing you do in the morning is turn on your computer and check your email.

I am incredibly guilty of this. I get up, walk into my office, turn on my computer and then go make myself a cup of tea and breakfast while it loads, come back, update twitter, open Google Reader then get absorbed so badly the house could burn down around me and I would not notice!

2. Your internet gets capped and you get irritated at waiting 60 seconds for a web page to load.

There are 3 people sharing the net connection at my house. Thats 3 times the flash games, youtube videos and downloads so inevitably we get capped. When it happens I will actually YELL at my computer to go faster... it sadly doesnt listen!

3. Its 3am, you have to be up for work tomorrow at 6am and you find yourself saying "just one more webcomic/blog post/game"

I do this on a nightly basis, I will stay up horridly late reading webcomics, blogs, new articles, photography and photoshop tutorials or looking at pretty naked people and then the next day I will be an awesomely not fun person to be around until I have ingested approximately enough caffeine for an elephant.

4. You have dreams where you met your favourite bloggers (or the creator of your favourite game)

This has happened to me more than once. I dreamed Gala Darling and I went on a shopping trip and found a store that sold real live unicorns! (Probably inspired by her Holo Unicorn Necklace) I also dreamed the gorgeous Lady Smaggle and she asked me to take her outfit photos.

5. The power goes out and your first reaction is "Oh no the internets!"

Not 3 weeks ago someone hit a power box near my house and I was without power for 3 days. I didn't know what to do with myself. I ended up rnd pretending that this was the apocalypse and trying on the best zombie fighting outfits (fyi High Heels are not practical in event of apocalypse)

6. You find yourself telling your grandmother about the latest lol cat at a family dinner... and then spend 15 minutes explaining what a lol cat is because you know she'll find it funny if she could just understand cat linguistics.

I haven't done this to my Grandma but did I explain the whole story of Pastafarism to my Grandfather and he promptly decided he liked and and now tells everyone he is a Pastafarian! (My Grand Dad is too cool) More info on the Flying Spaghetti Monster Here [Link]

7. When someone asks you a question you say "ill google it" even if its just "whats for dinner?"

A very common saying in my house is "Just google it" everything from Recipes, Songs and Pet Tags the Internet is the ultimate Tips and Tricks guide.

8. Before cleaning the house you search for more efficient ways to clean rather than just getting started

I did this yesterday because I could not figure out how to get the gunk from an exploded lasagna off the roof of my microwave!

9. You have conversations with your real life friends and you tell them something you have done recently they say "Yep read it on your twitter/facebook/blog"

I follow several RL friends on twitter and recently in a conversation a friend mentioned something that had happened to him that he had Tweeted. So far haven't had a story of mine made redundant by tweeting but the day is coming.

10. You obsessively refresh your RSS Reader when you have read everything desperately hoping someone will update and give
you something to read!

My Google Reader has over 100 websites subscribed in it and I still run out of things to read and am constantly adding things to it. I love blogs that update multiple times a day and especially if they are pointing out other cool things like on the net (Boing Boing is great for this)

There are alot more things that characterize us net addicts but these are a few that I am guilty of. If you are worried you might have an actual problem take the Net Addiction Test: [Link]

What makes you a net addict?
