What I Wore: To Work

Top by Mink Pink
Shorts by Shilla
Click to Enbiggen my Goofy Face
I wore this to work on a day when it was 36 degrees and was soooo happy I did. Got a lot of compliments on the top.

I am  looking forward to wearing this lace top with lots of different colours underneath. Its got a really lady like feel and I rather enjoyed pairing it with shorts to break that up a little.

I love the tailored shorts. They are light cotton, super comfy and easy to dress up and down! Utterly my favourite buy of the summer.

What piece of clothing are you loving and wearing to death at the moment lovelies?

What I Wore: Plus Gratuitous Puppy Pic!

Dress by Shilla

Chain Detail Belt

Puppy Photo! Ignore my face she had just licked me!
Shoes (barely Visible) are Diana Ferrari Super Soft
Jacket from Melbourne <3
I wore this out and about running errands today. The Dress is one of those that looks awful on the rack but great on! A very comfy cool summery dress with a nice amount of stretch to it. Glad I let the Boutique girl make me try it on (I've learned to trust her judgment & she has yet to steer me wrong)

For Christmas I received a new tripod and a remote for my camera! Exciting! So no longer do I have to con my sister into taking my outfit photos! Its a bit of a learning curve so expect some less than awesome ones for a bit while I figure it out!

Mini Lust Have: Sunglasses

Bvlgari Sunglasses: RRP: $480
Gucci Sunglasses: RPP:$475

I am currently lusting after these glorious sunglasses. I only own one pair of sunnies despite working in a shop that sells the silly things.

They are sitting on the shelves at work and even with my discount I am umming and ahhhing over the price. They look lovely on and I try them on daily. I am so going to give in sometime soon and buy the darn things I bet. I am sick of squinting every time I leave work!

I am leaning towards the Gucci pair which have limited pieces in Australia and have a very vintage look. What do you think lovelies? Are you currently lusting after things?

New Specs!

I like wearing glasses, everyone in my family wears glasses and considering I work for an optometrist for a living I am well aware of how a new pair of specs can change a persons whole look and sometimes outlook! I got my old pair of glasses about a year ago (right after I started working at my job) and I get loads of compliments on them.

I didn’t take excellent care of them and now they have a scratch on the lens and the colour is coming off a little (not that anyone but me would notice) so I decided I wanted a new pair. My first pair took me 6 weeks to choose. My new pair took me about 6 months. I wanted a really light colour as black frames just washed me out, I wanted them to be simple on the sides as I don’t like bling and I wanted them to match my face perfectly!
A simple task it was not! I tried on at least a hundred pairs of frames, every time one of our brand reps would come in I would try on nearly everything that looked vaguely possible!
Finally these babies came along! Lovely Dior Frames in a gorgeous champagne colour! Perfect. I ordered them on the spot!

So far with my new pair I have received a lot of compliments as well which is nice.
A couple of tips for picking glasses:
  • If the frames looks to big/small ask if it comes in a smaller/bigger size. Most optical frames come in multiple sizes (Sunglasses usually only come in one)
  • Black washes a lot of people out!  If you like the style ask if it comes in a tortoise shell. Tortoise shell acts like a neutral, is more flattering on nearly everyone than black and is readily available in most designer frames!
  • Don’t be overly concerned about how the frame fits when trying it on. If its to loose or slides down your nose the practice will be able to adjust the fit on most frames for you. If your not sure ask if it can be adjusted to fit as some things can be adjusted and somethings can't!
  • Anti Reflective/Multi coatings are worth the extra cost! . They allow the light to pass through the lens which is what makes it way easier to see your eyes. It is more attractive and more comfortable to wear. If you look at my photos you can barely (if at all) see my lenses!
  • I am always honest with customers about whether I think a frame suits them, and I spend a lot of time everyday helping people pick frames. However not every Customer Service Rep is going to be as honest. If you think they are just trying to get you to buy the frame come back with a friend.
  • Try on anything that you like the look of, even if its super different to what you already have. You might look silly or it might look fantastic! You never know til you try them on!

  • Please do not say “You are going to hate me” or “Im really fussy about my glasses” Everyone is! If I had a dollar for every customer who said this to me I would be rather well off!
Finally I had a little old lady tell me that “Picking glasses is like picking a new nose!” By which she meant Glasses are like feature of your face just like your nose so you want to get something that suits you, looks good, is comfy and that you can live with seeing everyday!

Geek Style: Alice in Wonderland Inspiration.

Tim Burtons Alice in Wonderland opens March 5. I am so excited I can hardly contain myself. As a kid I loved the movie and books and seeing as Tim Burton is one of my favourite movie Directors of all time the combination is just to delicious. The early trailers look amazing, filled with bright colour and a new take on the story which is what we have come to expect from Mr. Burton. Said to be an “extentension” of the original books Alices Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass (by which I assume Mr. Burton has taken liberties with the story) it promises to be a gorgeous visual feast at the very least!
So I decided to do an Inspired Style Post based on how I would dress as some of the characters from Alice in Wonderland!
Alice:

I never really liked Alice all that much. Especially in the disney movie I found her to be vapid, whiney and just rather.. well annoying! If I was going to dress as Alice (and a grown up version that Mr. Burton is portraying) this is how I would do it! Alice is said not to quite fit into victorian society so why not go all out. Blue and White are obviously Alices Signature colours are blue and white so I continued that theme + a more grown up version of her little black shoes.
Alice is being played by 19 year old Australian Mia Wasikowska.
The White Rabbit:

Poor Rabbit. Always in a hurry. The guy needs a holiday. Obviously needed to go with a theme of White. The quintessential pocket watch, ultimate accessory for a time poor bunny. The Red Jacket is also essential as in all the pictures (new and old) of the White Rabbit he is pictured in a red coat. A bag to hold all the important documents a Rabbit who works for a Crazy Queen could need, Comfy flats for being on the run and the ruffle just for fun!
The White Rabbit is voiced by Michael Sheen best known for his role as Lucian in Underworld.
Cheshire Cat:

The Cheshire Cat was always my favourite! Crazy, Fun and Brightly coloured! Whats not to love! I went all out with the crazy colours on this one and trust me if I could afford this outfit I would wear it often!!! Pink and Purple are the colours of the Cheshire cat to me (no matter what Tim Burton has done and made him blue...) The necklace is actually an official piece of merchandise but I think the Cat himself would wear his own merchandise.. don't you? This look obviously requires dual coloured nails, purple and pink eyeshadow and cats eye eyeliner!
The Cheshire Cat is being voiced by Stephen Fry. One of my All Time Favourite Actors! *Squee*
Mad Hatter:

After the Cheshire Cat, The Mad Hatter was next in my affections (followed by The Caterpillar) Mental, Mad and a Bit Silly. The Mad Hatter always stole the show for me. The Tim Burton version is said to have more depth and polish (what else would we expect)
So I decided to go classy with this look. Still mad but more cohesive than you would expect the actual Mad Hatter to dress. Corset, Latex leggings topped with Bright Makeup (Lime Crime Lipstick Featured here) would be a must as well as of course Tea Cups! These feature butterflies as the handle which I thought was just to fitting!
The Mad Hatter is being played by Johnny Depp
The Red Queen:

Poor Queenie. So much anger and stress. I never had any strong feeings about her as a child (Really couldn’t blame her for not liking Alice as I didn’t either) but she offers some rather fun wardrobe choices! Rose Pattered Skirt as a reference to Painting the roses red, the Playing cards ring, I love Revenge (reference to “Alice has Returned to Wonderland) I carried the pattern through to the shoes. Red Nail and Lipstick of course. A Queen must Scream “Cut of Their Heads” in style after all.
The Red Queen is played by Helena Bonham Carter
Other people in the film of note include Anne Hathaway as The White Queen, Alan Rickman as the Caterpillar, and Matt Lucas as Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum and Crispin Glover as the Knave of Hearts.
Are you excited peoples? How would you dress as the characters? Comment and let me know your thoughts on the upcoming Alice in Wonderland Movie by Tim Burton.

Geeky Style "Girl" and "Guy" Versions.

I was informed that my Fashion Articles so far are sexist as they only featured looks for girls! Whoops! Sorry guys. So I decided to create a bunch of looks in a "Girl" and "Guy" Version Mainly because I couldn't find a lot of unisex stuff out there. It was a challenge to keep the looks consistent but interesting while still making them wearable.

Using A T-shirt as a base for both the "Girl" and "Guy" versions I worked to find comparable items for each set. All the T-shirts are from Think Geek and on my Wish list!

First Up:

"You Never Forget your first Doctor" Shirt as a base. I love this shirt with a passion being a MASSIVE Doctor Who fan. My Favourite part of this outfit is the Chucks and the "Girl" versions Jacket. That Jacket = Major lust for me! Please note I accidentally used Kids Chucks in these Sets but they do come in Adult Sizes!

The "Girl" version has a bit more zaniness to it due to the tights but if your not a zany person you could lose the coloured tights for plain ones. The "Guy" version is a slightly more complex version of the Basic "Guy" Look and could be added to with a coloured shirt under the Tshirt or by adding shorts and knee high socks to the look.

Second Up:

For the Firefly Fans out there a "Curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal" shirt. Wanted to add some of the feel of Firefly in the outfit, those the leather and cowboy-ish feel! The boots in these outfits are the "Girl" and "Guy" version of the Frye Engineer Boot. Accents of Gold to match the brown shirt and the boots make this a really handsome outfit whether worn by a girl or guy and I love the leather bag! I already own the City Of Angels Ring in Silver and its beautiful!

I think the "Guy" version ended up looking more Tailored while the "Girl" Version is a lot more flowy but if your a Girl who loves Tailored you could always wear similar pants to the "Guy" version and I have seen some Guys rocking a Flowy Cardigan!

and Third:

A Self Maintenance shirt forms the base item along with a pair of Classic High Top Converse All Stars.. I wanted to Match the colours of the chucks throughout the outfit without making it look really crowded . So I added Teal and Red accessories and tried to keep the feel of the outfit the same for both "Guy" and "Girl". The "Guy" Version of the outfit has less colour due to not being able to find as much to match. But as with all the outfits you could mix and match the accessories around to your liking.

So What do you peoples think? Ever Steal things from your Brothers/Sisters or BF/GF wardrobe?

Love and Obsessions

Miss Addict

Please Note I have used "Guy" and "Girl" in quotation marks since the outfits are based on traditional "Girl" "Guy" Stereotypes. However I have seen many a Guy rock a skirt and lots of Girls kick arse in Guys Jeans and a Waist Coat.

Geek Style

I have gone through a few style changes from complete tom boy (Runners, Over sized t-shirt and ratty jeans) to Gothling (black pants, black top, boots) to where I am now which is a mix between Recovering Gothling and Geek. Looking back over the changes I realised that my Geeky Style would of evolved earlier if I had known better. So I decided to put together a list of things I wish I had known years ago!

  • Iron your T-shirt.
And your jeans for that matter. While some clothes are made to be wash and wear Tshirts look a lot nicer when they have been ironed as do jeans, pants and just about anything!

  • Good Quality (aka more expensive) Jeans and Pants Fit Better as a rule.
They also don't stretch funny after two washes or fade as fast. A well fitted pair of jeans can carry you through a number of social occasions as well as Casual days at work and a good pair makes your backside look good as well!

  • Long Skirts are Awesome!
Long skirts worn with tights and boots have a comparable warmth factor to think pants and also swish very pleasingly around my legs making me feeling extra girly. They also make wearing dressy tops easier and Look pretty good with T-shirts if worn right.

  • A Pony Tail can be made stylish with a little effort
During high school I was forced to wear my hair up and this meant that I was very lazy as a result when it came to my hair. These days I try and avoid just throwing my hair up in a pony tail and ad a ribbon, clip or hair band to make it slightly more stylish.

  • Comfortable shoes Do Not have to be ugly.
While comfy attractive shoes can be harder to find than gorgeous painful ones it is possible to find comfortable shoes that don't look like Nana would wear them. Chunky Heels, Well constructed heels are one of my favourite things in the world!

  • Always be honest with yourself when buying something.
I will never buy something unless it fits perfectly but that's come with years of buying things and watching them sit in my closet unworn because I was convinced I would wear it even though it was uncomfortable when I tried it on, the colour matched nothing else I owned or it just wasn't a "me" piece. That said don't be afraid to buy something different if you fall in love with it!

  • If you are unsure about buying something ask for an opinion!
Not the shop assistant. While not all of them will lie to you some will. Ask a friend to be honest (and don't lie to them when they ask) Another shopper in the change room (I get asked a lot and will always be honest.) I personally tend to ask my Mum since she has a great Style Radar and if I look like an elephant in those pants she will tell me!

I will be adding to the Geeky Style
category on the site soon so keep a look out for Geeky Style Tips and Tricks :)

What do you wish you could tell yourself years ago? What tips do you live by these days?
